SA Wines Online will be hosting a 6 week wine course from
their warehouses in South Wimbledon from the 11 March.
Qualified WSET Tutor (Wine and Spirits Education Trust), Ged
Bell, also holds a WSET diploma and will be presenting an
overview of wines of the world, how to systematically assess
wine and wine production methods. Below is a bit more
details on the course content.
The course will be held every Tuesday evening from 11 March (except 25 March) Additional Dates added: 3 June 2008 to 8 July 2008 & 7 October 2008 to 18 November 2008 (skipping 28 October) from 7:30pm to 9:30pm. There will be an average of 6 wines presented on each night and students will also receive 6 ISO tasting glasses of their own for the course.

factors, variations in winemaking methods, tasting session
to introduce a standardised method of tasting including a
range of wines to show as wider range of styles as possible
from light dry white through Rose to full bodied red).
Week Two: 18 March (10 June; 14 October)
Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot
(Wine regions - the appellation model, history, preferred
growing conditions and production methods, styles of wine
cool/hot climate)
Week Three: 1 April (17 June; 21 October)
Chenin Blanc and Pinot Noir
(South African wine brief history, characteristics of these
two vines and how that affects growing regions and wine
styles)
Week Four: 8 April (24 June; 4 November)
Sauvignon Blanc and Grenache/Syrah
(Origins preferred climates, soils, blends v varietal)
Week Five: 15 April (1 July; 11 November)
Riesling and Pinotage
(Wine styles, climatic factors, German wine law, sugar
content v alcohol)
Week Six: 22 April (8 July; 18 November)
Sparkling, Sweet and Fortified wines , and some other
classic grape varieties including Semillon; Riesling;
Sangiovese (production methods, grape varieties, styles of
wine).
